Having puppy breath may still be OK if you're truly a puppy. But if your adult dog's breath smells a bit rank when he gives you a friendly lick, it may be time to start brushing Fido's teeth.

Marion officials are considering a ban within the city limits on pit bulls, Rottweilers and any "other animal with vicious tendencies." But, veterinarians and some dog owners say such a ban is discriminatory, and other types of dogs could be considered dangerous.
- Woman cited, facing fine after 30-dog removal (Fort Wayne Journal Gazette)
A woman accused of keeping 30 dogs and a cat in her Ashley Avenue home was charged Thursday with city ordinance violations. Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control officials said the animals were part of a puppy-dealing business.
- Pedestrian, pet dog die after being struck by a truck on Highway 62 (The Mail Tribune)
A man and his dog were killed Wednesday night while trying to cross an unlit section of Highway 62 in Medford. Police would not identify the man until his family was told of his death, which may take a while in this case.

It's not even scheduled to open for another month, and already Vallejo's new skate and dog park is seriously marred by graffiti.
- Dog refugees arrive at Santa Fe shelter (KRQE Albuquerque)
SANTA FE -- The Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society is taking care of 40 dogs rescued in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. The dogs have received medical exams and have beds in a kennel behind the shelter's animal-care building.

After two months of rest and rehabilitation, Jack the dog is still weeks away from needing a foster home to take him in temporarily. "He?s going to need at least six weeks in a foster home," said Jessica Dunn, foster program coordinator with Jackson County Animal Care and Control.

I would like to compliment Mr. Frank Ockomon for his letter on Oct. 5 concerning a dog owner?s responsibility. I too am a lifetime owner and trainer of dogs, and in that time have learned a thing or two about being a responsible pet owner.
