By the astrological almanac, Aug. 11 is the last of the dog days of summer. But for major leaguers, the canine calendar is at its pinnacle, and far from over. Ballplayers can attest that this summer's dog days seem to be lingering longer than usual. Side effects, at a minimum, include mental and physical fatigue from the oppressive heat and interminable schedule.
